Marty has over thirty-five years of legal experience ranging from the prosecution of major criminal cases early in his legal career to his present representation of a wide range of business clients, including publicly traded national corporations. Marty has substantial experience in commercial leasing and the resolution of commercial landlord-tenant disputes. As a former partner at Holland & Knight LLP, he represented South Florida and national businesses in the following industries: hospitality, technology, home building and development, construction, contracting and real property management.
In the community, Marty served as the 2019 President of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and continues to serve on its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Marty also served as a member of the City of Hollywood Community Development Advisory Board from 2015-2021 and as Chair of the Board from 2018-2020. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Broward Public Library Foundation, having served as Chair of the Board from 2016-2018.
Marty served from 2007–2014 on the Board of Directors of the Leadership Broward Foundation. He received the 2010-2011 Chair Award at the annual meeting for Outstanding Service to the Foundation. He also previously served several terms as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. He served as the 2007-2008 Chair of Broward County’s Senior Executive Orientation Program, co-sponsored by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and the Leadership Broward Foundation.
Marty was previously involved in the Maryland State Bar Association serving two terms on its Board of Governors and two terms as Chair of the Judicial Appointments Committee. He also served as Chair of the Bar Foundation of Prince George’s County, Maryland Inc., which provides pro bono legal services to the citizens of the County.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight LLP, he was a partner at the Maryland firm of Knight, Manzi, Brennan, Shay & Ham P.A., where he practiced commercial and real estate litigation. Marty began his career as a prosecutor in the Prince George’s County, Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office, where he attained the position of Senior Trial Attorney in the Felony Crimes Division of the office. Marty received his B.A., cum laude, in Economics from the University of Maryland and his J.D., with Honors, from The George Washington University Law School.
Caryl has practiced in the area of construction law for the past 35 years and is Florida Bar Board Certified in Construction Law. She has extensive and unique experience in preparing and negotiating construction contracts, as well as in all construction-related legal matters including risk allocation, payment and scope of work issues, insurance and bonding. Caryl has participated in the resolution of many large construction disputes whether through litigation, arbitration or other dispute resolution methods.
After obtaining a BS in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, Caryl went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland. Caryl started her legal career in private practice representing companies engaged in all aspects of construction. Caryl accepted her first in-house position as assistant general counsel to the Clark Construction Group. Caryl has served as corporate counsel to the Kirlin Group and to Moss & Associates, LLC.
Caryl is a member of the Florida bar.
In November 2018, Caryl was elected as a Commissioner of the City of Hollywood, Florida, representing District 1. She serves as the City’s representative on Broward County’s Metropolitan Planning Organization and the County’s Climate Change Task Force. She is also a Women of Tomorrow mentor at Hollywood Hills High School and is a graduate of Leadership Hollywood (Class 38). Caryl has served in leadership roles within the Broward County Public School’s Partners in Education program, The David Posnack JCC Book Festival and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Fort Lauderdale Take Steps Walk.
